Training Facilities
ANDTc has well equipped training facilities and expert Level Two and Level Three training facilitators.
All our training is accredited to the renowned British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) and approved by multinational companies. The training provides a route towards certification against the following standards: ISO 9712, EN 4179 / NAS 410, and SNT-TC-1A.
We currently train more than 1000 prospective NDT operatives per annum in our facilities in Centurion and Durban.

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Method using very short ultrasonic pulse-waves to detect internal flaws or to characterize materials and also measure material thickness. This method is ideal for the detection of subsurface indications in thick materials. A good understanding of science and mathematics is necessary to undertake this course as it is an advanced NDT method.
Duration
Level 1
3 weeks (including exam)
Level 2
2 weeks (including exam)

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
Method for detecting surface and limited subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt, and some of their alloys. This method is widely used on most sites and is a great course to begin with.
Duration
Level 1 & 2 combined
7 working days (exam included)

Penetrant Testing (PT)
Method used to locate surface-breaking defects in all non-porous materials (metals, plastics, or ceramics)
This method is a great one to get started with in the world of NDT. It is widely utilized due to its simplicity and portability.
Duration
Level 1 & 2 combined
7 working days (exam included)

Radiographic Testing & Radiation Safety (RT)
Method of inspecting materials for hidden flaws by using the ability of short wavelength electromagnetic radiation (high energy photons) to penetrate various materials. This method is ideal for the detection of subsurface indications in thinner to medium thickness materials. A good understanding of science and mathematics is necessary to undertake this course as it is an advanced NDT method.
Duration
Radiation Safety
1 week (including exam)
Level 1
2 weeks (including exam)
Level 2
2 weeks (including exam)

Eddy Current Testing (On Demand) (ET)
Method using electromagnetic induction to detect flaws in conductive materials. This method is widely utilised on oil rigs and in the aerospace industry. A sound knowledge of maths and science is recommended.
Duration
Level 1
2 weeks (including exam)
Level 2
2 weeks (including exam)

Visual Testing (VT)
A visual inspection or examination of objects, parts or components is the oldest and reliable non-destructive method. This course offers a great chance to get into NDT as it starts with the very basics.
Duration
Level 1
1 week (including exam)
Level 2
1 week (including exam)

Phased Array UT (PA)
A visual inspection or examination of objects, parts or components is the oldest and reliable non-destructive method. This course offers a great chance to get into NDT as it starts with the very basics.
Duration
Level 2
3 weeks (including exam)

Time of flight diffraction (TOFD)
Time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD) is an advanced method of ultrasonic testing for the experienced UT Level II Technician which is a sensitive and accurate method for the nondestructive testing of welds for defects.
Duration
Level 2
2 weeks (including exam)
